Salton Sea Backbone Infrastructure

The Salton Sea “Backbone” Infrastructure Project will ensure the development of an adequate infrastructure system required to collect, store, manage and release drainage water to accommodate future uses consistent with the state’s Salton Sea restoration program. Once completed, the project will ensure that water delivery systems allow for the diversion of agricultural return flows to the Sea for habitat restoration and air quality mitigation projects. Additionally, the project would incorporate flexibility and durability into the reconfigured drainage system to accommodate anticipated fluctuations in flows and incremental development of restoration and other uses over time.
